On Friday 4th March the Patrol Leaders and assistants packed up their bags, and went to their action packed leadership training camp. The gang was Katie C, Zoe L, Annabel E, Eleanor L, Ellie H, Danny L, William T and Charlie T. What a troublesome lot may I say! The leaders were Paul, Doug, Simon and Jess.
We arrived and straight away we had massive discussion about where we were going to sleep. Even thought there was only one room hmm. Somehow we sniffed out some fun including mattresses, can you guess? Fine maybe not, its mattress surfing; running up and sliding on mattresses it is funnier than it sounds.
That night we had a lovely meal of burgers (cooked by Jess). There were a lot of laughs around the table. After tea the scouts packed and cleaned up with our amazing techniques (by playing netball/rugby/rounders in the kitchen). By that time it was time to start getting ready for bed (just keep in mind we are extremely slow at everything).Once we had settled down (in bed chatting) the leaders went to bed. It was unknown the time that the scouts got to sleep but to honest I don’t think that you really want to know.
The leaders got us up unnaturally early (for 13 years olds) I think we all get allergic reactions to light before eight o’clock in the morning (take note Paul). Jess made us a big breakfast and hot chocolate what woke us up fully. Our first activity was putting up tents (lead by Ellie). We all wrapped up warm and headed into the unknown of outside. We split up into two groups and started to put up tents. Surprisingly Danny’s hat went missing, (whilst Zoe and Katie were standing right behind him or is it her hmm).
When we finished we went in to warm up and have lunch. After that we packed up and practiced our ruball (ruby/netball/rounders). Then after all that we went to collect wood for our bonfire for later. Katie and Zoe then learnt a vital lesion of life ‘what to do when a car is coming to you when you are carrying a tree.’
When we got back we had tea which was a roast dinner cooked by Jess. We all ate up (or in Ellie’s case put your peas and sweet corn in your cup). Then we went outside and started lighting our fire. At first it did not work and wasn’t very successful (lets just say the floors and toilets were much cleaner due to Ellie and Danny). We got to bed very late that night again and woken up very early again (which we were not very happy about).
On Sunday we went on a long hike (due to Danny and Eleanor sending us the wrong direction). When we got back we were very tired. Then we had to clean up the place (Whilst having mop fights). It took just under an hour and a half which is a record for us.
Over all it was a great weekend and we all really enjoyed it.
